Activities

Places of interest

Eremo di S. Spirito

Built probably in a period antecedent the year of thousand, in 1050 here lived Desiderio, future Pope Vittore III, and in 1248 Pietro da Morrone, future Pope Celestino V. It is an abbey set in the cliff in the heart of the Majella mountain. In the time it had some architectonic modifications, but it represents the most important retreat of Abruzzo and it is one of the most loved by tourists.

Eremo di S. Bartolomeo

In the middle of the valley of Santo Spirito is the hermitage of San Bartolomeo in Legio, one of the most evocative of Abruzzo. It consists of a church almost entirely carved into the rock, except the outer wall masonry. Every year, on August 25, the church is reached by hundreds of faithful who carry the statue of St. Bartholomew from the church to the hermitage of Roccamorice.

Tholos

Used by shepherds as a shelter or place to stay overnight, the tholos are constructions where every piece of stone is placed one above the other, and there is no use of cements.
Majella has 75% of the tholos of the whole Abruzzo region and have become a must for the discovery of the Majella Park.

Caramanico Terme

Not far from Roccamorice there is Caramanico Terme, headquarter of the "Comunità Montana Maiella e Morrone".
The center is known for the artistic richness and the presence of spa and treatment: "Terme di Caramanico". It is also included in the group of the most beautiful villages of Italy.
